Francesco
BIANCHI-DEMICHELI, MD
Professor Emeritus
FMH Specialist in Psychiatry & Psychotherapy, Sexual Medicine & Wellbeing

Prof. BIANCHI-DEMICHELI obtained his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Lausanne in 1985. After extensive training at major Swiss hospitals across various somatic medical disciplines — including gynecology and obstetrics — he earned his FMH specialization in psychiatry & psychotherapy in 2000.

A pioneer in the field of sexual medicine, he has devoted his academic and clinical work to exploring the complexity of desire, intimacy, and emotional connection, with a special focus on the neuroscientific underpinnings of love and sexual function. His research — spanning over 150 peer-reviewed publications — has positioned him as a leading voice in the field internationally.

He earned his medical doctorate in 1999 with a thesis on human sexuality, and later pursued advanced training in noninvasive brain stimulation at the Berenson-Allen Center of Harvard Medical School.

His collaborations with prestigious neuroscience centers in the U.S. and Canada have led to groundbreaking work using neuroimaging (fMRI, EEG) and eye-tracking to study the neurobiology of passion, bonding, and attraction.

He was awarded the Senior Prize in 2007 from the Maurice Chalumeau University Fund and later became a patron of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva.

As Scientific Director of the Certificate in Clinical Sexology at the University of Geneva and associate professor at both the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Psychology, he has shaped a generation of practitioners.

He founded Geneva’s first clinical sexology course, and continues to expand the field by integrating olfaction, creativity, and the arts into therapeutic frameworks.

At Lumen, Prof. BIANCHI-DEMICHELI leads a dedicated consultation in sexual medicine, offering a deeply personalized, scientifically grounded, and emotionally attuned approach — where intimacy, health, and identity are treated with the nuance and care they deserve.
